The Raleigh Spring Sale, held March 1, 1997 at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, produced record prices. It featured two great stallions, Flashy Zipper, an AQHA Leading Sire of Performance horses and AQHA High Point Western Pleasure Stallion, and Zippin Bonanza Flash, AQHA Reserve World Champion Two Year Old Snaffle Bit Western Pleasure Horse. Both Horses were consigned to the sale by Snooks Saye Quarter Horses of Georgia.

Flashy Zipper topped the sale selling for $400,000.00, believed to be the second highest price ever paid for a Quarter Horse stallion at public auction. He was purchased by Ken and Trish Green of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and will stand at Bruce Walquist Quarter Horses in Texas.

Zippin Bonanza Flash, a nine year old bay Superior Western Pleasure horse and Reserve World Champion, was purchased for $90,000.00 by Wayne Beck of Lodi, California. Zippin Bonanza Flash will stand at the Beck's Ranch along with their stallions Biggest Show In Town and an Appaloosa son of Zippo Pine Bar.

The sale averaged $6,839 on horses actually sold. "This was one of the best sales we have ever produced," said Tim Jennings, Vice President of Professional Auction Services, Inc. "Taking the two high selling stallions out of the average, it still averaged $3,028 on the other 125 horses that actually sold. That ranks up with our Eastern Mid Winter Sale and among the best sales in the country."

The $400,000 price for Flashy Zipper topped the record price of $145,000 set for a Halter/Pleasure horse at the 1996 AQHA World Championship Show Sale in November, (also managed by Professional Auction Services, Inc.). "This is just more proof that professionally managed Auctions are the best marketing tools for the best horses," said Jennings. " How else can a seller be sure that they have gotten the highest possible price?"

The demand for Paints continues to be very strong. The Paints sold at the Raleigh Spring Sale averaged $3,152. The high selling Paint was Bugs Last Chance a 1994 Stallion consigned by Red & Barb Huber of Kentucky and purchased by Randal Menscer of North Carolina for $15,000.00.

A record crowd of nearly 3,000 people attended the sale which was held during the Southeastern Reining Horse Association Spring Celebration Reining. The NRHA approved Reining also showed tremendous growth with entries up over 50%.

The Raleigh Spring Sale was managed by Professional Auction Services, Inc. of Leesburg, Virginia. Professional Auction Services, Inc. was founded in 1978 by Mike Jennings and Tim Jennings and has managed nearly 120 Horse Auctions with sales of over $45,000,000.00. Auctioneers for the Sale were Alan Parker of Plant City, Florida and Mike Jennings and Tim Jennings of Professional Auction Services, Inc.
