Saturday, April 17 - Quarter Horses & Paints
New records were set at the Eastern Spring Hunter Sale, held April 18, 1999 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland. The sale produced a record high average price for horses sold and record price for a high selling horse. Horses came from eleven states to be sold. Buyers from six states took new horses home.
The sale averaged $2,754.63 on horses actually sold. "This is the highest average sale price we have had at any of our Hunter and All-Breed Sales. These sales are attracting better horses and the horses are selling for more money," stated Tim Jennings, Vice President of Professional Auction Services, Inc. "People are starting to take advantage of the auction method. Buyers can shop through more horses in one day than they can on the private market and have the advantage of the transaction being governed by a written sales contract. The sellers have the convenience of selling their horses where the buyers have gathered and they know exactly how much commission they will pay." The top five selling horses fetched an average price of $8,220.00. Warmblood and warmblood cross horses sold for an average price of $5,950.00 while ponies averaged $3,070.83. Eighty seven percent (87%) of the horses offered were sold to new homes.
The High selling horse was the Holsteiner mare Ladera, a three year old daughter of Merano, consigned to the sale by Richard Kent of Virginia. When the gavel fell, she was sold to Danny McFarland of Maryland for $11,500.00. The High Selling Gelding was Sporting Life, a seven year old Dutch Thoroughbred cross sold by Tommy Rogers' TGR Sales & Show Stables of Virginia to Mimi Kujawski of Maryland for $9,500.00
"Our goal is to establish reliable auction markets for show horses, breeding stock and prospects at the Eastern Hunter Sales in Maryland and the Virginia Hunter & Bloodstock Sales, much like the auctions we produce for the Quarter Horse and Paint market" said Jennings. In 1998 Professional Auction Services, Inc. sold nearly 1,400 Quarter Horses at an average price of $4,517.00 and have sold Quarter Horses for as much as $400,000.00 at auction. "We are confident that our hunter & all-breed sales will become a solid, reliable market places for horse owners at all levels" said Jennings.
The Eastern Spring Hunter Sale was managed by Professional Auction Services, Inc. of Leesburg, Virginia. Professional Auction Services, Inc. was founded in 1978 by Mike Jennings and Tim Jennings and has managed nearly 160 Horse Auctions with sales of over $57,000,000.00.
