The 1999 Bob Perry Quarter Horses, Inc. Dispersal Sale
Quarter Horses
An era ended on August 6, 1999 in Valley View, Texas. Leading Breeders Bob
and Ann Perry liquidated all of the horses owned by Bob Perry Quarter Horses,
Inc. The Perrys owned and stood Zippo Pine Bar for thirteen years. Zippo
Pine Bar is the All-Time Leading Sire of AQHA ROM Qualifiers, the All-Time
Leading sire of Point Earners with nearly $50,000 AQHA points earned and the
All -Time Leading Sire of Western Pleasure Money Earners. Zippo Pine Bar
sired World Champions in every stock horse breed. The Perrys were at the top
of AQHA’s Leading Breeders of Performance Horses lists.
The Perry sold 54 horses. The balance of the horses in the sale came from
guest consignors and were restricted to the get of, or mares bred to,
stallions that the Perrys have stood over the years.
The get of Zippo Pine Bar led the way averaging $23,771.00 with the Zippo
Pine Bar daughters sold averaging a whopping $26,733.00. The entire sale
averaged $12,708.00 with 90% of the horses offered selling to new homes.
“This is an astonishing average considering that there were 25 weanlings and
22 yearlings offered at the sale.“ said Tim Jennings, Vice President of
Professional Auction Services, Inc.
The results are the actual sale prices attained in the sale ring. No horses
were sold prior to the sale. “Bob and Ann wanted this sale to reflect the
integrity that they have run their operation with.” said Jennings. “The
Perrys agreed not to sell any horses prior to the sale and did not.” All
horses offered by Bob Perry Quarter Horses, Inc. were sold absolute to the
highest bidder in the sale ring. Guest consignors were prohibited from
selling any horse entered in the sale prior to the horse entering the sale
ring. The terms of the consignment contract stated that any horse sold
prior to entering the sale ring was subject to a $2,500 penalty in addition
to the consignment fee and commission. Additionally, any horse sold prior to
entering the sale ring would not be allowed to enter the sale ring.
The decision to sell their remaining horses at public auction was made
fourteen months after the death of Leading Sire ZIPPO PINE BAR. “The Perrys
felt that this was the most effective to sell all of their horses.” said Tim
Jennings, Vice President of Professional Auction Services, Inc. “It proves
once again that the auction method of marketing is the most efficient and
effective way to sell quality horses.”
The High Selling Horse was Zippin Maid Easy, a full sister to AQHA World
Champion Amateur Western Pleasure horse Custom Zipper, and bred to Radical
Rodder . She is a Western Pleasure point earner and sold for $60,000.00 to
Roberts Development Corporation of Florida and was sold by Bob Perry Quarter
Horses, Inc. The Roberts purchased 6 daughters of Zippo Pine Bar at the
sale. Larry and Mary Roberts recently purchased AQHA World Champion Jr.
Western Pleasure horse and AQHA World Champion Sire, A Sudden Impulse.
The High Selling Stallion was Zippos Finale, the last son and only yearling
by Zippo Pine Bar. He was purchased by Peter and Sheri Kern for $42,000.00
and was also sold by Bob Perry Quarter Horses, Inc. The Kerns also purchased
nine broodmares including four Zippo Pine Bar daughters.
