The 1999 American Hunter
Pony Classic

Welsh Mare brings record price of $50,000
at the American Hunter Pony Classic
A
standing room only crowd watched a four year Welsh mare set a new record high
price at the American Hunter Pony Classic, held August 12, 1999 at Commonwealth
Park in Cupeper Virginia. When auctioneer Mike Jennings dropped
the gavel and said sold, Lake View Pocketbook had topped the sale selling
for $50,000.00. The VPBA and Welsh registered daughter of Carolinas Red
Fox was out of Hip Pocket, the only daughter of multiple AHSA Horse of the
Year, Shenandoah Opal and was by Cymraeg Rainbeau. Lakeview Pocket Book was
sold by Richard Taylor. s Venture Farm as agent to Vickie Hanson, agent.
Every significant record for the American Hunter Pony Classic Auction was
broken. The 1999 sale set new marks for the Highest Price ($50,000), Highest
Average Sale Price ($7,755.28), and highest percentage sold (87%) of any sale
held with the AHSA Pony Hunter Finals. . This helps prove that the auction
method of marketing is the most efficient and effective way to sell a quality
pony. The Thoroughbred industry has known this for a century and the Quarter
Horse and Paint industries are moving that direction. said Tim Jennings, Vice
President of Professional Auction Services, Inc. "The show Hunter and
Jumper markets are just realizing how effective auctions can be."
The
second High Selling Pony, Smirf, sold for $30,000.00 to Lisa Schierholz of
Missouri and was sold by Edna Lytle of Maryland. Smirf is a 6 year old Welsh
Cross mare by Liseter Star Jasper. The High Selling Gelding,Talisman, fetched
a price of $22,500.0 and was sold by Richard Taylor. s Venture Farm as
agent to Connie Mechlin of Missouri. Talisman is a 5 year old is registered
VPBA and Welsh and was 1995 Devon Breeding Champion.
