Welsh Mare brings record price of $50,000 at the American Hunter Pony Classic

A standing room only crowd watched a four year Welsh mare set a new record high price at the American Hunter Pony Classic, held August 12, 1999 at Commonwealth Park in Cupeper Virginia. When auctioneer Mike Jennings dropped the gavel and said sold, Lake View Pocketbook had topped the sale selling for $50,000.00. The VPBA and Welsh registered daughter of Carolinas Red Fox was out of Hip Pocket, the only daughter of multiple AHSA Horse of the Year, Shenandoah Opal and was by Cymraeg Rainbeau. Lakeview Pocket Book was sold by Richard Taylor. s Venture Farm as agent to Vickie Hanson, agent.

Every significant record for the American Hunter Pony Classic Auction was broken. The 1999 sale set new marks for the Highest Price ($50,000), Highest Average Sale Price ($7,755.28), and highest percentage sold (87%) of any sale held with the AHSA Pony Hunter Finals. . This helps prove that the auction method of marketing is the most efficient and effective way to sell a quality pony. The second High Selling Pony, Smirf, sold for $30,000.00 to Lisa Schierholz of Missouri and was sold by Edna Lytle of Maryland. Smirf is a 6 year old Welsh Cross mare by Liseter Star Jasper. The High Selling Gelding,Talisman, fetched a price of $22,500.0 and was sold by Richard Taylor. s Venture Farm as agent to Connie Mechlin of Missouri. Talisman is a 5 year old is registered VPBA and Welsh and was 1995 Devon Breeding Champion.

The sale averaged $7,755.28 on ponies actually sold. "This was a great sale." Jennings stated "The top twenty ponies sold for an average price of $17,560.00. . Nineteen ponies sold for $10,000 or more.
