The 1998 30th annual Eastern Mid Winter Sale shattered the previous record for average price of horses actually sold. The sale averaged $3,579.26, an increase of fourteen percent (14%) from the 1998 sale. "This was a great sale. We had a huge crowd. The biggest I have ever seen at any horse sale." said Tim Jennings, Vice President of Professional Auction Services, Inc. "Every horse in here brought top dollar, whether they sold or not." A huge crowd of over 7,000 people attended the sale held on January 23 & 24 at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, Virginia.
The Eastern Mid Winter Sale remains one of the strongest show horse sales in the country. "Buyers can find more show horses and show prospects here that at any sale in the country except the World Championship Quarter Horse Show Sale." stated Jennings. "Of the horses that passed through the sale ring, a record 143 had either show, sire or produce record and averaged $5,007.88. More than one third of the horses that were offered here had a record", Jennings said, "making it one the best places in the country to shop for show horses."
The weekend's activities began off with a 30th Anniversary party held on Friday night sponsored by Professional Auction Services, Inc. People who were in attendance at the first Eastern Mid Winter Sale were recognized at the beginning of the sale and were presented with a commemorative 30th Anniversary cap. Each buyer of a horse that sold for $2,500.00 or more also received a cap. The sale also featured a large trade show with forty two tack shops and trailer dealers. Sale Horses were shown at performance demonstrations each morning before they sold.
A special session was added for Cutting Horses and Team Penners. These horses were sold as they were shown on cattle on Sunday morning. Horses that were shown on cattle averaged $3,110.00. A special session for Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle prospects averaged $3,447.97.

Quarter Horse Average Price: $3,768 (Increase of 10% from 1998)
Paint Horse Average Price: $2,990 (Increase of 15% from 1998)
