The 1997 World Championship Quarter Horse Show Sale was the most successful World Sale ever held. The sale was held on November 20, 21 & 22, 1997 in conjunction with the American Quarter Horse Association's World Championship Quarter Horse Show in Oklahoma City .

For the third consecutive year, a new record average price was set for horses actually sold. The 1997 average of $8,060.47 marks an increase of sixteen percent (16%) over the 1996 sale and an increase of forty eight percent (48%) in the average price since Professional Auction Services, Inc. took over management of the sale in 1995.

"This sale has a long history of being one of the best in the country," said Professional Auction Services, Inc. Vice President Tim Jennings, "and this year's sale shows us just how healthy the Quarter Horse business is." Horses from 39 states and Canada were offered for sale. Buyers from 36 states, Mexico, Sweden, Germany, Canada, England and France. Twenty percent of the horses sold brought $10,000.00 or more.

A new feture this year was the addition of TV monitors showing the sale live. The monitors were placed near the World Show warm up arena in Barn 1, and in Barn 5 where additional sale horses were stabled. "There was always a crowd around these TVs" said Jennings. "Everybody seemed to like them. And it allowed people in Barn 5 and at the show to follow the sale."

The Sale was managed by Professional Auction Services, Inc. of Leesburg, Virginia. Professional Auction Services, Inc was founded in 1978 by Mike Jennings and Tim Jennings and has managed over 130 horse auctions with gross sales of nearly $50,000,000. The firm has been retained by AQHA to manage the sale through 2002. Auctioneers for the sale were Mike Jennings, Tim Jennings, Alan Parker of Plant City, Florida and Tony Langdon of Dallas, Texas.
